JAZZ:
Routine must primarily demonstrate jazz technique, including proper execution of turns, leaps, kicks, and stylistic movement. Routines containing more than five acrobatic or gymnastics tricks should be entered in the Acro category.
LYRICAL:
Routine should emphasize extension, balance, control, and fluidity of movement. Choreography should interpret the lyrics, emotion, or mood of the music through expressive performance.
CONTEMPORARY:
Routine should showcase contemporary dance technique, incorporating extension, balance, control, and versatility. Choreography may blend elements of lyrical, modern, and concert dance styles while emphasizing artistic expression and innovation.
BALLET:
Routine must consist primarily of classical or contemporary ballet technique, movements, and vocabulary. Ballet slippers or pointe shoes are required.
BALLROOM:
Routine must primarily feature ballroom dance technique and partnering. Styles may include, but are not limited to, Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Jive, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Salsa, or other recognized ballroom and Latin dance styles.
HIP-HOP:
Routine should primarily feature hip-hop movement and technique, including street styles such as breaking, popping, locking, house, or commercial hip-hop. Performance should emphasize musicality, style, and execution.
TAP:
Routine must primarily demonstrate tap technique, rhythm, timing, and musicality. Tap shoes are required.
CHEER:
Routine should showcase cheerleading technique and performance. Each routine must include a combination of jumps, stunts and/or tumbling, motions, vocal cheer elements, and precision.
CHARACTER:
Routine should portray a recognizable character, theme, or story inspired by Broadway, film, television, literature, or other theatrical works. Costuming, performance quality, and character development should complement the choreography.
ACRO:
Routine should combine dance technique with acrobatic skills, incorporating tumbling, balances, flexibility, and controlled tricks throughout the performance. Dance movement should remain an integral part of the routine.
SHOW/PRODUCTION:
Routine must include a minimum of 15 dancers and be between 4 and 15 minutes in length. The performance may incorporate one or multiple dance styles and should present a cohesive theme or storyline. Multiple age divisions, levels, dance styles, props, and special effects are permitted.
Studios must notify the event prior to the competition of any props that will be used so appropriate placement can be arranged. All props must be safe, free of sharp edges, and must not leave marks, dents, or damage to the stage or gym floor. Props must be set up and removed promptly before and after the performance. Damage to the floor is the sole responsibility of the STUDIO with the prop. Be sure to cover props appropriately.
